School’s out for the summer and Broward’s kids are ready for some rockin’ good times. This year, Broward County Libraries are the place to be.
Librarians understand that children who don’t read and learn during the summer fall behind in reading and math - an average of 2 ½ months. Known as the “summer slide”, this gap can contribute to significant setbacks in academic achievement. As a result, teachers are forced to spend 17% of the new school year re-teaching material.
The 2018 Libraries Rock! Summer Learning Program runs from June 1 - August 14. These events will have participants rocking out with free concerts and music, move-to-the-groove dance parties and workouts, fun geology and science related events for all ages. Attendees are encouraged to track their reading, writing, attendance and completed activities using the Beanstack Tracker app.
Through a partnership with The Florida Panthers, the Foundation will be able to provide special guest appearances from Florida Panther broadcasters, alumni, Stanley C. Panther and the Panther Patrol!
The Broward Public Library Foundation has committed more than $40,000 to support the Libraries Rock! Summer Learning Program at Broward County Library. Your donation will encourage personal and academic success while affording children a summer of entertainment and education.
Below are a number of ways to contribute towards this enriching program. Help the next generation learn why libraries really do ROCK!
