Mystery Time for Broward County Library's 21st Annual StoryBook Festival

Free family event features stories, entertainment and more

Families with children of all ages are invited to the 21st Annual Storybook Festival, from 10AM to 4:30PM, Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Southwest Regional Library, 16835 Sheridan Street in Pembroke Pines, 33331, 954-357-6580.

StoryBook Festival provides a magical experience to encourage a love of reading and libraries through presentations by the finest storytellers and literature-based performance groups. Creativity and learning are nurtured through math and logic games, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) activities and arts and crafts presented by the City of Pembroke Pines Parks and Recreation. Children are encouraged to come in costume.

The theme for this year is "Get a Clue: Once Upon a Mystery." Reading mysteries supports literacy goals, fosters a love of reading, develops critical thinking skills, promotes problem solving, tickles the mind, encourages concentration - and is fun!

Festival highlights include:

  • Big Book Giveaway: Free for first 1,000 children courtesy of Panera Bread
  • Stages of Shows: Indoor and outdoor performances
  • Entertainers: Storytellers, stilt walkers and musicians
  • Fantasy Forest: Follow a path in the Enchanted Forest and meet favorite characters

Join the Broward Public Library Foundation at Savor Cinema to celebrate Jane Austen's ultimate story of life and love in Georgian England. Broward County Library Director Allison Grubbs will provide a brief introduction prior to the film. *Broward Public Library Foundation members gain additional access to a semiprivate reception including drinks and lite bites. The five Bennet sisters — including strong-willed Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) and young Lydia (Jena Malone) — have all been raised by their mother (Brenda Blethyn) with one purpose in life; finding a husband. When a wealthy bachelor takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Among the man’s sophisticated circle of friends, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. But when Elizabeth meets up with the handsome and — it would seem — snobbish Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFadyen), the battle of the sexes begins.
