READ
The Broward Public Library Foundation is committed to enhancing the literacy skills of residents of all ages. As an investment in the future of our community, the Foundation provides literacy programs to help ensure success throughout life. Because reading skills can mean greater success in school and in life, developing a love of reading in our community’s children is one of the most important goals of the Foundation.

"I read to my children every day. Coming to the Library gives us the opportunity to explore and learn together. The annual Children’s BookFest with its storybook characters and children’s book authors is my children’s favorite activity."
George, a dad with Ailan and Julia

LEARN
During the past decade, Broward County has seen a tremendous influx of persons from other countries speaking many languages. The Newcomers/New Americans program is designed to assist residents from other countries, whose primary language is not English, to successfully maneuver life and living in America.

"I moved to this country five years ago from Columbia where I was an attorney. I could not speak English. Some one told me about English Café, a program at my neighborhood Library where I could learn and practice English..."
Cristina, a library volunteer

CHANGE
The Library’s unique intergenerational reading program Prime Time brings together seniors and children for memorable storytelling sessions.

"Claire and I have so much fun and feel so rewarded to be able to read to young children in daycare centers. This program has kept us both active and we know we are changing lives."
Evelyn, a Prime Time volunteer

GROW
The African-American Research Library and Cultural Center is the third public library of its kind in the nation. The facility provides the community with resources to educate this generation and future generations about the rich and colorful African, African-American and Caribbean heritages, cultures and histories.

"I have been so blessed to be apart of a dream come true. My library has meant so much to me personally. I have been a volunteer here since the doors opened. As an artist, I am particularly interested in the collections and artifacts from around the world that have inspired my work. "
Charles, a library volunteer and artist
