Meet & Mingle with 21 National Award-Winning Authors at Literary Feast 2010
Two-day celebration of literary arts features 4 main events
The 22nd edition of Literary Feast, Broward County’s premier literary event, will bring 21 acclaimed authors to South Florida on March 19 and 20.
Benefiting the Broward Public Library Foundation, the annual celebration treats book lovers to free author readings and discussions, book signings and the program’s signature “A Night of Literary Feasts.”
With Nova Southeastern University (NSU) returning for the ninth year as the Title Sponsor, Literary Feast 2010 features an exceptional line-up of award-winning authors, including best-selling writers Russell Banks (The Reserve), Elizabeth Kostova (The Swan Thieves), Lisa See (Shanghai Girls), and mystery writer Deborah Crombie (Necessary As Blood).
“Nova Southeastern University is honored to once again host the annual LitLIVE! event, which showcases the amazing, award-winning authors taking part in Literary Feast 2010,” said NSU Chancellor Ray Ferrero, Jr. “Providing this chance for up-close-and-personal interaction with these authors allows us to promote literacy and gives book-lovers of all ages the opportunity to support our library system – which in these tough economic times is even more vital to the community.”
Literary Feast 2010 authors participate in four unique events during the weekend:
- Novel Day for Students on Friday, March 19: The authors visit Broward County high schools to discuss their books and the craft of writing. They will also announce the winners of the annual Literary Feast Short Story Contest at each school. Sponsors are Bank of America and the Josephine S. Leiser Foundation.
- “Women, Work & the Art of Savoir Faire” Luncheon on Friday, March 19 (11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.): A new course has been added to Literary Feast – a luncheon with Mireille Guiliano, author of Women, Work & the Art of Savoir Faire and French Women Don’t Get Fat. The event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six’s revolving Pier Top in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $65. Sponsors are Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust and AutoNation.
- Lit LIVE! on Saturday, March 20 (10 a.m. – 2 p.m.): Authors participate in a FREE series of author talks, panel discussions and book signings with the public at Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center on NSU’s main campus at 3301 College Ave. in Davie.
- A Night of Literary Feasts on Saturday, March 20 (6 p.m. – 11 p.m.): The namesake fundraising event begins with cocktails, a silent auction and book signings at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six. Guests are then treated to intimate dinner parties with the authors in private homes and upscale South Florida restaurants. Ticket packages start at $150 per person.
“Literary Feast 2010 offers something for everyone – mysteries and thrillers, scholarly observations, musings on food and design, sports and social media, as well as investigative journalism, analyses and even the Bernie Madoff scandal,” said Literary Feast Co-Chair Diane Brewer, Vice President/Private Banker at Gibraltar Private Bank & Trust.
“These events are for everyone in the community to appreciate the literary arts,” added co-chair Joe Piccirilli, a co-founder of Sound Advice and local entrepreneur. “At the same time we’re raising money for critical library programs, such as computer instruction classes, that would otherwise be eliminated in this difficult economic climate.”
